What types of photographs do you like to take?
When my children were little, I loved to take photos of them. Now, I like to bake and photograph food. I use a lot of my photos on my baking blog Bake Chocolate Cake. I also enjoy landscape photography and abstract photography. Recently I have become interested in digital art and how I can alter my photos to create different moods.
How long have you been taking photos?
Forever. I remember getting my first camera as a birthday present when I was eight. As a child I constantly wanted to take photos, but the expense of buying film and paying to get it developed added up quickly. I kept my extensive collection of photos in shoe boxes under my bed. As an adult I started to experiment with black and white photography. I also bought a digital camera. Now I can take millions of photos and delete the ones I don’t like. It is a fun hobby.
Are you a professional photographer?
When I think about professional photographers I picture individuals who have spent many years mastering the technical aspects of photography. That is definitely not me. I like to focus on composition and trying to capture memories or create a story. Sometimes everything lines up just right to create a beautiful photo.
What kind of camera do you use?
I have not spent a lot of money on camera equipment. I enjoy shooting with my Canon EOS Rebel T2i, but in reality I end up taking most of my photos with a pocket Cannon Powershot or my phone. The best scenes for photos are not planned. I am much more interested in capturing the story or moment, than working on technical details. Some of my favorite photos were found while I was driving and I pulled over to snap a quick shot. It is difficult to take a quick photo when I am carrying a lot of extra equipment!
Why Photography 221B?
I wanted to have a photography site, but of course Photography.com was already taken. Have you noticed that it is almost impossible to find interesting names that are still available? A long time ago I tried to use my own name for an e-mail address but it was taken so the site suggested adding numbers. That concept wasn’t very appealing for my personal e-mail but when I started thinking about a photography site I thought maybe I could add numbers. (Fellow fans of Sherlock Holmes will immediately recognize 221B.)
Where can I buy your photos?
I am just beginning to sell some of my work in art shows. If you are interested in purchasing any of the photos send me an e-mail:
